Wa-Hi records two wins at regionals

SPOKANE — The Walla Walla High School softball team punched its ticket to the state tournament with a pair of wins in the regional tournament over Lewis & Clark and Central Valley.

Wa-Hi senior class led the way, as the Blue Devils opened with a 10-3 win against the Tigers before beating the Bears, 7-1.

Both games featured plenty of offense accompanied by strong pitching performances. Game one starter Ellie Rassbach dominated Lewis & Clark, as she only gave up three runs on three hits. At the plate, she added three hits. Maddie Aichele also launched a home run to extend the Wa-Hi lead they wouldn’t surrender for the duration of the day.

Lewis & Clark did their best to battle back, but failed to string together enough hits despite three uncharacteristic errors from the Blue Devils.

Wa-Hi’s strong, but small senior class played extremely well this weekend, head coach Kate Keyes said.

“A shout out to all my seniors — they played a great game,” Keyes said. “(Jacie) McDaniels, Rassbach, Aichele and (Maddie) Fortney were great this weekend.”

Aichele not only played well from her lead off spot — compiling five hits in the two games — but played solid defense for the Blue Devils on their way to only allowing one run to Central Valley in the second game. McDaniels also had a strong offensive showing on the day, as she piled up six hits, which lead the Blue Devils on the day.

Brandi Schoessler limited Central Valley to just one run on six hits. The Blue Devils now move into the first round of the state tournament, but their opponent is to be determined.
