Warne places second and third at state


EUGENE — McLoughlin High School’s Tristin Warne and Aaron Lefore led the Pioneers here in State 4A track and field action.

Warne ran to second and third finishes in the boys hurdle races. Warne ran a 39.97 seconds in the 300 hurdles to finish second, only .15 seconds behind Newport’s Michael Capri’s winning time of 39.82.

Warne turned a 15.28 run in the 100 hurdles to earn third place. La Salle’s Ben Hurtaleza took the title with a 14.82 effort.

Lefore earned two sixth-place finishes in the field events for the Pioneers. Lefore launched the shot 48-01.25 to finish sixth behind Estacada’s Justin Rich’s 52-01.5 effort.

Lefore took sixth in the discus with a heave of 147-10. Dallin Shurts from Banks won the discus with a throw of 163-07.

North Bend with 51 total points won the Oregon 4A team title.

On the girls side, Mac-Hi’s Kristi Childers placed in the finals in both the 100 hurdles and the 200 meter dash. Childers ran a 16.39 in the 100 hurdles to finish sixth behind Henley’s Willow Charlton’s winning run of 15.34.

In the 200, Childers ran a 26.44 in the prelims to reach the finals. Childers ran a 26.21 in the finals to finish eighth in the state, and North Valley’s Kerissa D’Arpino claimed the sprint title with a 24.34.

Mac-Hi’s other girl competitor, Susana Romero-diaz ran a 5:14.58 in the 1500, but did not place in the top eight. Scappoose’s Charlie Davidson won the 1500 race in 4:45.48.
