SPOKANE — A trio of Wa-Hi boys who qualified for the Class 4A regional tennis tournament here Saturday were eliminated in the first round.
Connor Christensen, the Mid-Columbia Conference’s No. 2 seed in singles play, suffered a 7-6, 6-4 loss to the No. 2 seed out of Lewis & Clark. Likewise Nick Fuller and Malcolm Gabbard, the Mid-Columbia’s No. 2 doubles seed, suffered a 6-3, 6-3 loss to the Greater Spokane League’s second-seeded duo, also from L&C.
“I am very proud of the effort they gave,” Wa-Hi coach Bryan Eggart said. “All three of them did an outstanding job.
“I thought they showed growth over the course of the season and deserved to be there,” Eggart added. “They showed it on the court and their opponents had to fight hard for their victories.”
The regional tournament ends the season for the Blue Devils.
