It took less than three hours for Whitman College’s men’s tennis team to sweep its way past visiting Whitworth under the lights of the Whitman Tennis Courts Tuesday as the Missionaries rolled to a 9-0 Northwest Conference victory over the Pirates.
PORTLAND — One point shy of its first Northwest Conference loss of the season Sunday afternoon, the Whitman College women’s tennis team stormed back to down host Lewis & Clark College, 5-4, with wins from Jenna Dobrin, Lindsey Brodeck and Erin Bell in the final three singles matches still on the courts at the L&C Tennis Dome.
Saturday morning’s 8 a.m. shotgun start at Veterans Memorial Golf Course teed off in surprisingly chilly April weather, but the sun heated things up over the final round of the Whitman College Easter Invitational as the Missionaries recorded their second day with a score of 314 to finish fourth of seven teams with a two-day total of 628.
Individual medalist honors came down to two golfers Saturday at Veterans Memorial Golf Course, and for Whitman College it couldn’t lose as both were Missionaries.
TACOMA — Five unanswered goals in the span of less than nine minutes nearly pulled Whitman College’s women’s lacrosse team even with their hosts from Puget Sound, but the Loggers finally halted the Missionaries’ rally with a late goal of their own to snuff out Whitman’s upset bid, 14-10, in a Northwest Conference matchup at Peyton Field at Baker Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Whitman College hosted the 21st Onionfest Ultimate Frisbee Tournament over the weekend, with 24 teams coming to town to participate in games at the Whitman Athletic Fields, Martin Field, DeSales’ football field and Whitman’s Ankeny and Harper Joy fields.
Five consecutive wins in singles action Saturday afternoon led Whitman College’s 25th-ranked women’s tennis team to a 7-2 Northwest Conference victory over host Linfield College.

The Loggers hit two walk-off homers to down Whitman in an NWC doubleheader Saturday.
The Missionaries fall short in the nightcap, 10-6, after losing game one, 11-5.
Whitman College’s men’s golf team improved its standing Tuesday during the final day of the West Cup on The Champions course at Tukwet Canyons, moving up a spot from Monday’s results to a 14th-place finish after a 36-hole day.
