Blue Devil girls fall to Gonzaga Prep, 52-46

Walla Walla High’s Madelyn Sirmon buried a mid-range jumper with 5:40 left in the game at the Wa-Hi gym in sub-regional championship girls basketball action Friday. Sirmon’s jumper gave the Blue Devils a 41-40 lead over defending state Class 4A champion, undefeated and No. 1-ranked Gonzaga Prep. The Bullpups responded with two treys from Tayler Drynan sandwiched around two Laura Stockton free throws to put Prep back on top, 48-41, with three minutes left. Prep improved to 23-0 on the season as it hung on for a 52-46 win.
