George K. Walker of Milton-Freewater passed away Aug. 11, 2012, at his home at the age of 91 years. Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Ingle Chapel Congregational Church with Pastor Kurt Van Batavia officiating. Private interment will be in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingle Chapel Congretational Church through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home. Friends wishing to pay their respects may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 1-5 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. to noon, 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Mr. Walker was born Aug. 21, 1920, the son of Alonzo and Amelia Propeck Walker. As a lifelong member of our community, George was an accomplished musician, playing trumpet with the Twin City Band and once played with Doc Severenson. As a supporter of the Milton-Freewater Pea Festival and float committee, he traveled the Northwest to many city celebrations. George was a Boy Scout leader and a member of Milton Lodge #96 A.F. & A.M., Shrine Club, American Legion Post #24 and past member of BPOE #2146. As a U.S. Army veteran, he served his country and community with honor and dedication. He was a member of the Ingle Chapel Congregational Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Walker at the home; two sons, Alan and Jeannine Walker of Milton-Freewater, Brian and Teri Walker of Walla Walla; two daughters, Cathy and Mike Buckley of Boring, Ore., Deena Walker of Walla Walla; grandchildren, Ty, Seth, Alisha, Rhonda, Misty, Eric, Margo and Justin; great-grandchildren, Page, Zack, R.J. Justys, Avrey and Raegyn. George was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Thelma.
