1931 - 2012
Richard Allen Meyers passed away at his home on Aug. 24, 2012. He was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Newark, N.J., to Bertha (Fischer) and Edwin Charles Meyers. His father was transferred to Allentown, Pa., where he spent most of his school years, graduating from Allentown High School. Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the Army where he served for 2½ years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at First Christian Church in Milton-Freewater at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steve Lyons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church or the Walla Walla Hospice.
In October 1959 he married Ruth Parlin in East Orange, N.J., and in January 1960 they moved to California. Because of his work, they later lived for a short time in Texas, New Jersey and Maine. In 1973 they returned to San Diego, where their two boys attended high school, both graduating from Mt. Carmel High School.
Dick was active in the International Society of Technical Communicators, being awarded the title of Fellow in the Society. Dick and Ruth retired to Milton-Freewater in 1991 to be near family and a new grandson. During this time, Dick taught computer classes for seniors at Blue Mountain Community College and Walla Walla Community College.
Dick leaves his wife at home; two sons, Chris (Amy) Meyers and Jon (Wendy) Meyers; a brother, Gary (Barbara) Meyers of New Jersey; and seven grandsons, Duglas, Kaden, Carsyn, Parker, Rudy, Jackson and Henry.
