1925 - 2012
Jacqulyn “Jackie” (Johnson) Hector was born May 4, 1925, in Huron, South Dakota, to Eldor
and Hazel Johnson. She graduated from Woonsocket (South Dakota) High School in 1943. A spirit of
adventure spurred her to come to Pasco, Washington in the summer of 1943, where she lived and
worked supporting the war effort at Hanford Military Reservation. In 1944 she met Leland
Hector whom she married on May 7, 1944. Living on their ranch (K2H) in Eureka, Jackie and Leland forged a
life together as they faced the challenges of rural living in the post-war era. For 29 years, Jackie served as rural fire dispatcher for Districts #3, #1 and #7 and was integral to efforts to put out fires and respond to medical/emergency calls. Upon their retirement in 1986, Leland and Jackie moved to Walla Walla.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in law: Larry & Tina (Walla Walla), Bill & Frances (Walla Walla)
and Kelly & Deena (Prosser); four grandchildren: Fredrick (Walla Walla), Sarah (Ed) Parker (Walla Walla), Ben (Jen) Hector (Coeur d’Alene, ID), Lee Hector (Prosser); and four great-grandchildren.
Jackie passed November 21, 2012, at Eagle Springs Memory Care in College Place. She was preceded in
death by her husband Leland and a son Gary Lee Hector.
A private graveside service will be held. The family will be celebrating Jackie’s life at 12 noon for lunch
on December 22, 2012, at the Walla Walla Suites Best Western Inn (behind Jacobi’s) on 2nd and Ash Streets.
