Phillip Keith Underwood, 71, of Milton-Freewater passed away on Dec. 16, 2012, peacefully in his chair. The celebration of his life begins with music and memories about a man who spent his life telling stories and tall tales to family and friends. The sharing begins at 2 p.m. on Dec. 22, 2012, at First Community Church of Milton-Freewater with Pastor Doug Henrichs officiating.
Phil was born in Cedaredge, Colo., in a log cabin at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, on Aug. 3, 1941, his mother’s birthday. He was the youngest child of Oran and Helen (Clipp) Underwood. They moved to the Walla Walla Valley in 1943. He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1959, attended classes at Walla Walla College, worked as a baker and was a published author.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Dixon; brother, Clyde Underwood; brother, Zane Underwood; and sister, Norma Downey. Phil is survived by his sister, Helen Rae Kincheloe; daughter, Mary (Marcus) Jennings; son, Matthew (Rachelle) Underwood; daughter, Beth (Tony) Pugliese; and daughter, Holly (Ryan) Daggett; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
