Irene Druce, 88, formerly of Milton-Freewater and Walla Walla died Oct. 22, 2012, in Kennewick. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Contributions can be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
Irene was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Weaubleau, Mo. She began working at J.J. Newberry’s in Walla Walla when it opened in the 1950s until its closing in the 1970s. She later worked in the restaurant business for many years. Irene operated the M-F Supper Club Restaurant in Milton-Freewater until her retirement.
She enjoyed her family and friends, sewing, yard sales, fishing and was an avid reader. She had a wonderful heart and was amazingly loyal to her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chet and Jackie Fortune of Walla Walla, Bill Fortune of Puyallup, Wash., and Mark and Marsha Fortune of Milton-Freewater; three brothers and sister-in-law, Alvin and Leona Spencer of Pasco, Lincoln Spencer of Charleston, S.C., and Foye Spencer of Walla Walla; and her several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and too many friends to count. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Druce; sister, Helen Smith; brothers, George Spencer, Bill Spencer, Jim Spencer; and her great-grandson, Trysten Fortune.
