1927 - 2012
Ruby Mae Berry, 85, a resident of the Hillsboro community died Saturday morning, Nov. 3, 2012, at her daughter’s home. Services will be held at a later date.
Ruby was born on Oct. 2, 1927, in Wallowa, Ore. She was one of five children born to Ralph and Bernice (Scott) Knight. She was raised and received her education in Wallowa and graduated with the Class of 1945 from Wallowa High School.
She married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Berry on Aug. 25, 1945, in Wallowa. Following their marriage they made their home in Wallowa until 1957 when they moved to Baker City, Ore. In 1961 they moved to Pendleton, before retiring in the Wallowa community again in 1973. Lyle died in 1995. Ruby then moved to Walla Walla. This past month Ruby moved to the Hillsboro area.
Ruby was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her three children. She had worked as a librarian for the City of Wallowa and Pendleton. Ruby had also owned and operated Pittsburgh Paint Supply in Wallowa for ten years. She enjoyed gardening, horses, square-dancing and water color painting. She was also active in her church, First Christian Church in every community she lived in. She enjoyed helping her husband Lyle to build and fix homes for to sale.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; and two siblings. Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Douglas and Coleen Berry of Pendleton, Debra Kelas of Hillsboro, Ore., Jim and Marilyn Berry of John Day, Ore.; two siblings, Leonard Knight and Ted Knight; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
