Alys Ann Popplewell

1938 - 2012

Alys Ann Popplewell was born on Dec. 6, 1938, in Gordon, Neb., to George and Roma (Mills) Popplewell. Alys passed away on Sept. 29, 2012, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in Yakima.

Alys graduated from Upper Columbia Academy and Walla Walla school of nursing. She worked for St. Mary Medical Center, starting in the kitchen. After completion of her nursing degree, she worked as a nurse on the maternity unit, later transferring to the Health Information Service Department. She worked at St. Mary in Walla Walla for 41 years before retiring in 2007. Alys married William (Bill) Anderson on Dec. 31, 1968.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Roma Popplewell; uncles and aunts, Max and Patty Popplewell, Jack Popplewell, Forrest and Elizabeth. Survivors include her husband, Bill Anderson of 43 years; her brother, Larry Popplewell; sister-in-law, Esther and Clinton Cummings; a step-son, Weston Tash; a step-daughter, Nancy and Ernest Schober; grandchildren, Heather (Tash) Kranovich (Brayden and Stephanie), Joshua and Monique Tash (Kenny and Corbin), Trisha (Schober) and Jesse Yow, Cody Schober; uncle and aunt, Harold and Shirley Popplewell; cousins, James and Ruth Popplewell, Sue and Mel Farnsworth, (Adam and Diana Farnsworth, Ashley and Alan Ayres), Pamala Popplewell, Marty and Catherine Popplewell (Daniel), Patricia and Allen Meeder (Matt and Jeffrey Hersey).

A service of remembrance will be held at the Northside Seventh-day Adventist Church at 1 p.m., Nov. 16, 2012, followed by burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery with Pastor Roger Johnson officiating.
