Glenn Blakely

1921 - 2012

Glenn was called home to his Lord on Nov. 22, 2012, at home in College Place at the age of 91. He was born in Colby, Kan., to Glen Edson Blakely and Mildred (Berry) Blakely. The family came to the West in 1935 because of the Dust Bowl. Glenn and his dad joined the carpenter union; Glenn was only 17 years old. Then, when World War II started, he joined the Navy.

He married Irene Sluys and had three children — Sharon, Sandra and Steven — in Walla Walla. They moved to Bellingham and he built houses. They later divorced. He came back to Milton Freewater, where his mom and dad lived. He married again to Judy (Schiffman) Fowler and welcomed her boys, Matt and Todd. They decided to move to Bellingham. After 19 years, they moved to back to Walla Walla to help Judy’s parents and decided to stay here.

He leaves behind his wife, Judy at the home; children, Sharon and husband Clayton of Bellingham, Sandra and partner Patrick of Bellingham, Steven and wife Kathy of Lynden, Wash., Matt Fowler and wife Lynn of Emmett, Idaho, and Todd Fowler of Missoula, Mont.; his sister, Arlene Widner of Milton Freewater; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Wayne Blakely.

There will be a private family interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society through the Professional Funeral Directors & Crematory, 2112 S. 2nd Ave., Walla Walla, WA.
