1921 - 2012
On Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, Joe L. Zaring, of the District of Columbia passed away. He was born March 24, 1921, the son of Roy and Mary (McLean) Zaring of Pocatello, Idaho. The Zarings and McLeans were early farmers in the Southeast Washington and Northeast Oregon area. Many of the descendants are still in the area.
Married for 58 years, he was the beloved husband of Dorothy Church Zaring, who survives him. He is also survived by nieces, Arleen Bedingfield and Nancy Anderson. He was educated with honors at the University of Idaho and Harvard. He had a long career with the military and the CIA, being recognized with the Intelligence Community’s National Intelligence Medal of Achievement for his work on the future of Europe after World War II.
A memorial reception will be held at National Press Club, 529 14th Street NW, Washington, DC, on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. RSVP 703-768-3174.
