Earl A. Helliker, Milton-Freewater, passed away Oct. 9, 2012, at Walla Walla General Hospital at the age of 86 years. Funeral Mass will be Friday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Milton-Freewater. Concluding services and interment will be in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home. Friends wishing to pay their respects may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 7-9 p.m. There will be a meal provided at the American Legion Hall for family and friends immediately after the graveside service.
Mr. Helliker was born April 16, 1926, in Higginsville, Mo., the son of John and Bertha Benzick Helliker. He proudly served his country in World War II and received two Purple Hearts. On Oct. 29, 1949, he married the love of his life, Joy E. Galloway. He was an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed baseball, football and hockey. He was loved greatly by his children Kevin Helliker, Maureen and Ted Price and Kathleen and Stephen Casey and his nephew Dan Snider. Mr. Helliker was adored by his grandchildren, Brian and Alice Casey, Andrew Casey, Tana Casey and Kevin Helliker Jr. His great-grandchildren McKenzie Helliker, Taegan Casey, Skylar Casey and Russell Casey gave him much happiness. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine and Rosemarie.
