Gwen R. Schreiner, 77, a 13-year resident of Sequim, Wash., passed away on Sept. 24, 2012, at the Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Wash., with family by her side. She was born in Ellensburg and was raised in Walla Walla. She received her B.S. in police science and administration from the Washington State College in Pullman. After her marriage to Donald G. Schreiner, they spent 39 years in Albuquerque, N.M., where she worked for and retired from the U.S. Department of Energy. The couple moved back to Washington state to retire in Sequim.
Gwen was active in many groups and as a volunteer through her life. Those included membership in the Phi Mu sorority and the American Legion Auxiliary. At the time of her passing she was an active contributor to Stitches from the Heart and also spent many volunteer hours each week at the Clallam County Historical Society in Port Angeles, Wash. She was also an avid gardener, seamstress and baker of cookies. If not involved in one of those activities, one form or another of needlework or a book was always in her hands.
Gwen was preceded in death by her and Don’s son, Bradford Lee. Gwen is survived by her loving husband, Don; their son, Christopher Alan, and his wife, Debra; and their sons, Nathaniel Alan and Matthew Lee.
A memorial service celebrating her life was held Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at American Legion Post 62 in Sequim. The family suggests memorials in Gwen’s name may be made to the Clallam County Historical Society, The Lincoln School Project.
