Laurie Mae Sewell

1951 - 2012

Laurie “Sammie” Mae Robbins Sewell of Pendleton went to her new home on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the age of 61, with her family constantly by her side for the past three months. She was in her family’s home in Irrigon, Ore., at the time of leaving this Earth and moving to the next step of life.

Laurie was born Aug. 21, 1951, in Mountain Home, Ark., to Otis and Audrae (Rector) Robbins. She lost her mother when she was 14 years old. Laurie made a home for two brothers and their dad in Milton-Freewater. When their dad passed away, she moved to Hermiston with an older sister and family. She graduated high school in Hermiston, but her favorite school was always Mac-Hi in Milton-Freewater.

On Oct. 23, 1971, she married Jim Sewell and embraced his three children, Jimmie, Steve and Tracey, with her whole heart and gave all her love to nourish and guide each of them as her own. On May 19, 1976, God gave her and Jim another special gift when they were blessed with a son, Jason.
Laurie was known for her love of people and her outstanding work ethic through the many years she owned Circle S Barbeque, and later at her time spent with Shari’s of Tualatin. She was also known for her loving personality, beautiful smile, art of giving and great love of all her family and friends. When you asked her how things are, she would always answer “just wonderful.”

Laurie is survived by her children, Jim Sewell of Pendleton, Steve Sewell (Stacy) of Burlington, Wash., Tracey Miller (David) and Jason Sewell of Pendleton; constant companion, her dog Charlie Mae; grandchildren, DJ and Brian Miller, Brendan, Nathan and Pepper Sewell; aunt, Orie Rector Campbell; sisters, Dee Rock (Babe), Dortha Backer (Bud); brothers, Ed Robbins (Linda), Monty Robbins (Jayne) and Rocky Robbins (Vickie); sister-in-law, Pat Schuening (Alvin); brother-in-law, Bob Sewell; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, grandparents, husband and a sister-in-law, Judy Morris.
Memorial contributions can be made to Vange John Memorial Hospice, 1050 W. Elm St., Suite 220, Hermiston, OR 97838.

Celebration of life will be Oct. 20, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Pendleton, 352 Southeast 2nd St. Family members are requested to gather in the coffee area at the church.
