1939 - 2012

WALLA WALLA — Robert Lee “Bob” Funches, 73, passed away Oct. 15, 2012,
at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center, 1710 Plaza Way. Bob was born Jan. 3, 1939, in Raymond, Hinds County, Miss., to Paul and Fourtha Mae Applewhite Funches Sr. He graduated from high school. Bob moved to this area in 1961, from Indianapolis.

He was a good brother, helpful and friendly to everyone with whom he came in contact – never meeting a stranger. He worked as master auto mechanic for Tex Brotherton Auto, Sunshine Chevrolet, Hanlon Motors then Abajian Motors. After 42 years of service he retired on May 15, 1990. Following retirement, he continued to help people with their mechanic needs until he was physically unable to do so due to arthritis. bob loved watching NASCAR races and going fishing. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Yolanda Denise (Ernest) Rogers of College Place; six step-daughters and two step-sons and their families; two sisters, Alma O. Jones of Walla Walla and Lillian Lee Aldridge of College Place; one brother, Paul Funches, Jr. of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Aisha Hamza and Shante’ Alfaro; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by all of his grandparents; his parents, Paul and Fourtha Mae Funches; his wife, Robbie Funches; two brothers, George A. Funches and Angulet “Joe” Funches; his son, Robert Funches Jr.; and a nephew, Roger Branch.

The memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road. Darius Morris will officiate.
