1927 - 2012
Velma Carlene (Connie) Oliver of Milton-Freewater passed away at the Washington Odd Fellows Home on Oct. 21, 2012. She was 85. Connie was born on Oct. 13, 1927, to Frank and Fay Peiffer Williams in LaGrande. She grew up in Duncan and Pilot Rock, Ore., and attended high school in Pendleton, graduating from St. Joseph Academy in 1944. She then attended business school.
In 1950 she married Murrel Oliver and moved to a 30-acre farm outside of Milton-Freewater. Connie has lived on that farm for the past 62 years. Connie assisted her parents in running several local restaurants and then worked for Dr. Hendricks in Milton Freewater from 1960-1968 when she retired to take care of her first grandchild. Connie was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling. She was her family’s eternal optimist.
Connie is survived by her children, Mick and Bev Oliver, Dan and Vickie Oliver, and Polly Oliver all of Milton-Freewater, and Sarah (Oliver) and Boddy Poirier of Aberdeen, Wash. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Paul Boschee of Seattle;
sister, Barbara Ismond of Roseburg, Ore.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Murrel; brother, Bob; sister-in-law, Patty Williams; brother, Budd Williams; and two infant great-grandsons.
Per her request there will be no service. Contributions to the American Diabetes Foundation may be made through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862. Thank you to all at the Odd Fellows Home for taking good care of our mother this past month. If you can’t be at home, Odd Fellows is “a nice place to call home.”
