Diane Reed Kaye

1943 - 2012

Diane Reed Kaye was born Sept. 4, 1943, in Williamsport, Penn. She was the only child of Claire and Flora (Border) Reed. Her childhood was spent in Williamsport. As a teenager, Diane’s family moved to Miami, Fla., where she graduated from Miami High School and Jackson Memorial School of Nursing.

Diane was a founding member of the nation’s first Nursing Research and Development unit, and later assisted in transplant research seeking a cure for juvenile diabetes. She taught in the nursing school’s LPN to RN transition program, and was an administrator in its 1,200-bed supporting hospital. In the 1980s Diane was nurse-administrator at Emerald-Hodgson Hospital on the campus of the University of the South. Later, she became a professional legal-nurse consultant and founded Blue Mountain Medical-Legal Resources in Walla Walla.

In 1983, she married Capt. Robert Kaye and became an Episcopal priest’s loving mentor, wife and partner. Without exaggeration, literally everyone who knew her was drawn to her warmth, wisdom and love.
She leaves her husband and their children, Mark A. Kay and Grace K. Steinebaugh, and her grandson, Ryan.

A memorial service with Holy Eucharist, will be Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walla Walla, the Rev. T. Birch Rambo, presiding.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Diane’s name to Walla Walla Community Hospice, the Walla Walla Cancer Center or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, through Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main,
