In Loving Memory Dorlin J. Haste
February 2, 1953 – August 28, 2012
College Place – Dorlin James Haste, 59, passed away August 28, 2012, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Dorlin was born February 2, 1953, in Culbertson, Montana, to Leroy E. and Mildred R. Moothart Haste. The family moved to this area when he was six years old, and he attended Milton Stateline Seventh- day Adventist Elementary School, McLoughlin High School, Mt. Ellis Academy in Bozeman, Montana and Walla Walla Valley Academy.
He worked as a correctional officer at Washington State Penitentiary in the early 1980s. On August 3, 1986, he and Judy A. Christie married in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Dorlin was a heavy equipment operator and, in 1995, he and Judy started their business, Digger D Excavating. Both he and his wife were volunteers for the Walla Walla County Sheriff Search and Rescue organization. They were both past board members of Habitat for Humanity. They volunteered their equipment and time for the construction of several houses of that organization. He was a life member of Blue Mountain Humane Society and one of his and Judy’s greatest accomplishments was helping to build the new Blue Mountain Humane Society facility.
Dorlin was loved by all who knew him. He always had a smile on his face and would do anything he could to help anyone in need. Few knew of his love for animals.
Those left to mourn his loss are his wife, Judy, at their home; his daughter and son-in-law, Bobby Jo and Monty Engeberg of Pasco, Washington; his father, Leroy Haste of Verbena, Alabama; his sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Bob Ernest also of Verbena; two grandchildren: Claudia and Grant Engeberg also of Pasco; six nieces and nephews and their families and several cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Haste and a brother, Floyd Haste.
The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 7, 2012, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington. Pastor Mark Etchell of Walla Walla City Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate. Following the memorial service, there will be a reception at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
