1943 - 2012
March 15, 1943 - Aug. 22, 2012
Kathleen “Kathy” (Lobe) Andrews, loving mother, grandmother and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 22, 2012, at the age of 69.
Kathy was born on March 15, 1943, in Odessa, Wash., to Leo and Viola (Zeiler) Lobe. The oldest of three children, she was raised on a wheat farm. At age 16, she quit high school to marry Larry Ramm. From this marriage, her three beautiful children were born; they survive her.
On June 25, 1966, she married Kermit (Andy) Andrews in Couer d’Alene. They met in Moses Lake, where Andy was stationed at Larson Air Force Base. Less than eight months after their marriage, Andy was sent to serve in the Vietnam War. Upon his return, the family moved to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Upon Andy’s retirement from the Air Force, they moved to McAlester, Okla., back to Moses Lake and finally settling in Walla Walla in 1968. This area, Kathy called home.
Kathy finished high school through a correspondence course. She also attended Walla Walla Community College taking business courses. In 1982, she took the nursing assistants class at Walla Walla Community College. In the mid-’80s, she attended a business college in Bellevue, Wash.
Kathy worked at Sherwood & Roberts, Morrison’s Supply, along with many local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Most recently, she worked for Walla Walla Community Hospice. She truly loved this job for it gave her a new insight on her career. She dearly loved caring for her patients in their last weeks, days and minutes. Her philosophy was “to give 200 percent” on a daily basis; even though she worked two jobs for many years. Caring and helping others was her top priority.
In 2004, she had to take an early retirement due to breast cancer, but worked what hours she could with Hospice. She then found time to knit, quilt and hang with friends. Kathy enjoyed life in her way. Kathy is survived by daughters, Kristi (Mark) Lloyd of Longmont, Colo., and Denise (Dale) Macy of Brighton, Colo.; son, Jeff (Joan) Andrews of Issaquah, Wash.; six grandchildren, Whitney Forbes of Boulder, Colo., Kyle Forbes of Loveland, Colo., Evan Andrews of Smokey Point, Wash., Amanda Andrews of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Jake and Jasmin Wolfe of Issaquah, Wash.; brother, Neil (Colleen) Lobe of Odessa, Wash.; brother-in-law, Les Wolff and family of Spokane; several nieces and nephews; many cousins, including Lonna Lobe; along with many dear and special friends. She was preceded in death by Andy in 1975; her parents; grandparents and her sister, Lynnette Wolff, in March 2012.
The memorial funeral service will be held at the Walla Walla VFW on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at 1 p.m. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the entire staff at Walla Walla Community Hospice as well as her close friends who were there to help.
