1919 - 2012
Lois Geraldine Glockhamer passed away on Sept. 3, 2012, at The Court at Reno assisted living facility in Reno, Nev., she was 92. Gerry was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Bismarck, N.D., and raised in Billings, Mont., was very much a child of Christmas — not only because of her steady faith in God, but also because of her kindness, generosity and love of children. A devoted elementary school teacher, Gerry enriched the lives of students from Spokane and Walla Walla, to Tempe and Tucson, Ariz.
As her own children and friends can attest, it was not unusual for her to be affectionately recognized by a person she had taught in first grade as long ago as 20 years or more. Her longest teaching position was at Hudson Elementary in Tempe, where she also spent summers taking graduate courses at the College of Education at Arizona State University. Many a student teacher will remember her valuable guidance. When she retired to Tucson with her husband, Fred, she continued to tutor children in math and reading.
Gerry, as her departed husband Fred and surviving son John and daughter Heidi well know, was a loving wife and mother. She will also be sorely missed by her granddaughters, Lindsay and Alexandra, and great-granddaughter, TyLyn.
A memorial service will take place in Reno, Nev., on Sept. 29, 2012. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family in The Book of Memories at www.waltonsfuneralhomes.com.
