1920 - 2013
Maria Elizabeth Unck (nee Zoestbergen) died peacefully in her
sleep on the morning of February 3, 2013. Maria was born in
Holland on October 11, 1920, in the City of Arnhem. In 1956, the
Pioneer United Method Church of Walla Walla arranged to sponsor
the Unck family, making it possible for them to immigrate to the
United States. Maria and her family arrived in the USA in February
of 1957, and adopted Walla Walla as their new home. Maria
received her US Citizenship in 1966.
She is survived by her sons Nico (Candace) of Walla Walla and Hendrik "Hank", Jr. (Holly)
of Tempe, AZ; two granddaughters, Desiree McDonald of Phoenix,
AZ, and Kacy Huffman of Coeur d’ Alene; a grandson, Robert
Unck, residing in Sweden; and a great granddaughter, Kailyn
McDonald of Phoenix, AZ. Her husband Hendrik preceded her in
death in 1990.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be
made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice through Mountain
View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla,
