Donald R. Hodgson

1951 - 2013

February 2, 2013 the world lost a great man. Donald R. Hodgson
was born September 6th, 1951 to Louis and Lorraine Hodgson
in Spokane, Washington. Don grew up in Spangle, Washington
and graduated from Liberty High School in 1969. He then attended
Eastern Washington University where he earned his bachelor’s
degree in chemistry and physics, and a master’s degree in education.
He married his high school sweetheart Vickie Holling in 1973.

Together they moved to Dayton, Washington in
1977 where Don began his 32 year teaching
career. Mr. Hodgson loved teaching math, science,
and computer classes and was often a favorite
among students. His passion for youth extended
far beyond the classroom. For over 20 years Don
coached various sports teams ranging from varsity
basketball to peewee soccer. He also served as both
an FBLA and class advisor. Don was best known for
his easy going personality, his sense of humor, and
his commitment to the community of Dayton. He
spent countless hours serving as a Sunday school
teacher, booster club member, and was active
in the Dayton Lions Club. As the Touchet Valley
Little League president, Don was instrumental in
building the softball/soccer complex in Dayton.

He also served on the volunteer fire department for
over 20 years. After retiring from education, Don
began a 2nd career as a real estate agent with
Windermere. If you asked Don what he was most
proud of, he would have said his family. He was a
dedicated husband and an amazing father, always
encouraging his kids to pursue their dreams.

Don is survived by his mother, Lorraine Hodgson, his wife
Vickie, son Drew (Emily) and daughter Mindy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tim Hodgson
and a daughter Jenny Hodgson.

A “Pep Rally” for Don will be held Saturday,
February 9th, at 10:00 AM in the Dayton High
School Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers or financial
contributions, the family is requesting that you honor Don
by donating your time in the community.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Rogg Funeral Home, Dayton.
