1931 - 2013
Gerard Howes, 81, of Walla Walla died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, of natural causes.
He was born to Walter and Winifred Howes on June 17, 1931, in Irlam near Manchester, England. Gerard graduated from Wade Deacon Grammar School then served two years in the Royal Air Force before attending the University of Liverpool, where he received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
He married the late Enid Wilson in 1957, and they and their two sons lived together in the United Kingdom, Virginia and other places around the world until her death in 1983. Gerard married Veronika Kuck in 1984, and they lived together in Virginia until her death in 2001. He married Abigail Murr in 2002 and they lived in Walla Walla since.
Gerard was an electrical engineer until he retired from Eurotherm Controls. He was a celebrated executive and mentor in the industrial temperature control industry. He enjoyed poetry, sailing, golf, woodwork and reading.
Gerard is survived by his wife of 11 years, Abigail; sister, Norah Hartley of Teynham, England; son, Nicholas Howes and his wife Kathleen of Nye, Mont.; son, Jeremy Howes and his wife Stephanie of Charlotte, N.C.; four granddaughters, Margaret and Allison of Nye; Sasha and Kayla of Charlotte. He is also survived by four step-children, 12 step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guest book at www.herringgroseclose.com.
