1941 - 2013
Steve Yeend was born in Walla Walla. He graduated from
Wa-Hi in 1959, attended WSU and graduated from Eastern
His career in retail management for J.C. Penney,
Best Products and others took him to Spokane, Coeur d'Alene,
Seattle and Phoenix. He owned a small business in Phoenix
and ended his "working life" as a flight attendant for
America West/US Air.
The Yeend family began homesteading in the
county in the late 1800s, and relatives still plow the
same ground. His Eastern Washington roots were
never far from mind. He was often seen sporting his
"cougar colors" on the golf course wherever he would
travel. The lure of lifelong friends, relatives, and "all
things Walla Walla" drew him and his wife, Neila,
back "home" after his retirement in 2011.
In the fall, Steve was diagnosed with acute
pneumonia and spent most of the month of November
in Providence St. Mary Medical Center. Although
spending December and January at home, he never
Steve's passion was his extended family.
He is survived by his wife, Neila, Walla Walla; son Christian
in Coeur d'Alene; daughter Corina in Seattle; sister
Judy Sells, Birch Bay; brother Bill, Camano Island;
step daughters Susie, Annette and Tracia and their
children and dozens of loving cousins and "shirt-tail"
relatives, all of whom have some connection to the
Walla Walla Valley.
There will be a memorial service at 1:00 p.m.
Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Mountain View-
Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla
Walla, Washington. Pastor Tim Bruner of New
Beginnings will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution in Steve's name to
Providence St. Mary Foundation would be appreciated.
