1920 - 2012
Eileen Frances McClenny passed away at Providence St. Mary Medical Centeron Dec. 30, 2012. She was born on July 5, 1920, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Alexander J. and Lona Eva Pearson Touraille.
Eileen attended Idaho area schools and graduated from high school in Missoula, Mont. She lived in Elk City, Idaho, and went through sixth grade there. She finished her seventh and eighth grades at St. Joseph’s Mission in Culdesac, Idaho. She and her dad and mother wagon trained at a boarding house at Newson Creek the last stop before Elk City.
Eileen loved A Little Piece of Walla Walla and Elk City Gold Fields. She also enjoyed the story of the Mullen Road to The Gold Fields of Idaho. She graduated from business college in Walla Walla.
She was a grocery clerk at Fleenor’s Grocery Store. She also worked for the Nez Perce Forest Service as a switch board operator. She worked for Safeway stores for five years and for Morrison Supply Company from 1959 until 1968 as an accounts payable bookkeeper.
Eileen married Alvin Leist in 1939. They had two sons who started school in Elk City. Her memberships include the Eagles Lodge, The Foresters, ARRP, Lady Elks, Fort Walla Walla Museum and Senior Center.
Eileen is survived by her son, Dennis and wife Carol Snyder of Walla Walla; two grandsons, Chris and Corey; granddaughters, Teresa and Yvonne; four great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Alvin Leist; second husband, Roy McClenny; one son; one sister; two brothers.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, from 3 p.m. until after the Rosary at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla. Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Herring Funeral Home with Sister Helen Mason officiating. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Pedro Bautista Peraza, Celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Catholic Church or charity of choice through the funeral home. A reception will follow at the Walla Walla Eagles Lodge, 350 S.
