Carol M. Lyon

1940 - 2013

Carol M. Lyon of Milton-Freewater passed away Jan. 19, 2013, at her home at the age of 72 years. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at 11 a.m at the Bethel Baptist Church in Milton-Freewater with Pastor Jeff Beazley, Pastor David Paine and Leonard Lyon officiating. Graveside services will be Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Moscow Cemetery, Moscow, Idaho. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ron Richwine Fund through Baker-Boyer Bank or Walla Walla Community Hospice through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home.

One of five children, Carol was born July 24, 1940, in Moscow, Idaho, the daughter of Irvin and Iva Roach Hendrix. She grew up in Moscow, where she attended school and graduated from high school. Growing up she worked on the farm, feeding, taking care of the animals, hay harvest and caring for her younger siblings. During summers she came to Milton-Freewater, where she worked for Mel Lyon Company as a harvest cook. On Sept. 14, 1958, she married Orrin Lyon in Moscow.

After her marriage and starting her family, she stayed at home to raise her children. Carol later worked for Richwine Furniture Store and later her friend Barbara Good talked her into working part time as a cook for the school district. She volunteered as director of AWANA Youth Group at her church for many years. She enjoyed birds, her bird feeders, fishing with her family, watching grandchildren play sports, and gardening. Carol was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.

Carol is survived by her husband, Orrin Lyon at the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy and Susie Lyon of Adams, Ore, Nathan and Pamela Lyon and John Lyon all of Milton-Freewater; two sisters, Sharon Jeffers of Clarkfork, Idaho, Nancy Lindhorst of Moscow, Idaho; a brother, Walter Hendrix of Moscow, Idaho; six grandchildren, Alex Lyon, Nick Lyon, Gracie Lyon, Zak Lyon, Rachael Lyon and Noel Shannon; numerous nieces and nephews.
