1930 - 2013
Shirley McEachern, Walla Walla and former Milton-Freewater
resident, passed away January 18, 2013 of heart failure. Shirley died
peacefully at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.
She was 82.
Shirley was born in San Francisco, California on August 2,
1930. Shirley’s parents, Hezron and Lucille Miller, owned a
small toy and hobby store in San Francisco. Shirley was the
oldest of three daughters.
Shirley attended Pasadena College in Southern
California, where she met fellow student Volus McEachern.
Shirley and Volus married on August 23, 1949. They had
three daughters and were happily married for 63 years.
During those years, Shirley and Volus served several
churches as minister and wife.
Shirley and Volus moved to Milton-Freewater in 1970
when Volus became Pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church.
Shirley worked for many years as the clerk of the Oregon
District Court in Milton-Freewater. After retirement, Shirley
and Volus traveled all over the world. Shirley volunteered
at the Milton-Freewater Public Library and the Milton-
Freewater Senior Center, and was an active supporter of the
local chapter of Planned Parenthood.
In 2012, Shirley and Volus moved from their longtime
home in Milton-Freewater to Park Plaza Retirement
Community in Walla Walla. Shirley is survived by her
husband, Volus; her daughters: Kathleen Felker, Laura
Compton, and Janet McEachern; and her sisters: Eleanor
Anderson and Betty Williams.
A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Presbyterian
Church in Milton-Freewater on Saturday, January 26, 2013
at 11:00 a.m. The community is invited. The family asks
that any remembrances be made to the Milton-Freewater
Senior Center through Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt,
