1921 - 2013
Floyd L. Schmitz, 96, of Walla Walla died peacefully at home on Jan. 20, 2013. Services were held on Jan. 25, 2013, at Mountain View Cemetery, where he was laid to rest next to his late wife, Helen. Father Tyler Smedley performed the services.
Floyd was born May 16, 1921, to Gertrude and John Schmitz in Boyd, Wisc. Floyd was an avid sportsman and athlete. As a young man, he excelled in baseball and running. He served our country in World War II and worked for most of his civilian career as a carpenter for the Walla Walla School District.
Floyd is survived by two of his siblings, Donald Schmitz and Robert Schmitz, both of Wisconsin. Floyd’s beloved companion dogs, Ozzie and Print, attended his graveside service and have loving forever homes with friends of Floyd. Floyd’s many friends across the country are sharing cherished memories of him and his many adventures in informal get-togethers throughout the week.
