Why did you redesign the site?
We had received increasing amounts of feedback - including from our employees - about issues with navigation, limited content and poor layout and design. The redesigned site is more robust, more user-friendly, better organized and more pleasing to the eye. It also has significantly more content. The new content includes letters to the editor, full obituaries, more breaking news, news briefs, court and emergency service reports and more.
Why is the Union-Bulletin.com now charging for content that was previously free?
The majority of residents in the Walla Walla Valley are already subscribers to the Union-Bulletin and these people will be able to access the entire site as part of their subscription.
The home page and other portions of the site (blogs, videos, photo galleries, classifieds and more) will remain free to all users. Summary versions of the local sports and local news stories will be available at no charge to all users, but the full versions of these stories will now be considered premium and will be available only to online and print subscribers. Other premium content will include information that was not previously available on the site, such as letters to the editor, police and emergency reports, full obituaries and news briefs. This change reflects the significant resources it takes to produce this valuable, award-winning content.
What is the premium content?
- Full version of the day's local and sports news
- All U-B columns
- Editorials
- Letters to the editor
- Obituaries
- Emergency services and court reports
- Features such as Marquee and Business Monthly
What is the free content?
- Abbreviated versions of all local and sports news which are specifically written for the Web.
- U-B blogs
- U-B video
- Special features like Wine and Dine and Community Newsgarden
- All updates using services such as Facebook and Twitter
- All Associated Press content which includes national and world news
