Walla Walla Sweets centerfielder Alex Bonczyk makes a rainy-day dive for a shallow hit ball by the Northwest Honkers during the second inning of Thursday night’s West Coast League game at Borleske Stadium. Bonczyk’s dive came up just short, as did the Sweets in a 4-3 loss.

9th-inning rally not enough for Sweets
The Sweets fall to the Northwest Honkers, 4-3, after being stymied through eight innings.
A three-run, ninth-inning rally was not enough for the West Coast League's Walla Walla Sweets to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat on Thursday night at rainy Borleske Stadium. The visiting Northwest Honkers, members of the Pacific International League, tallied single runs in the first, third, fourth, and eighth innings to eke out a 4-3 triumph that brought Walla Walla's season-opening homestand to a disappointing end.
