Come back into the real world. There are still 11.7 million unemployed, countless underemployed, and those who have had to accept a part time job, since no FT work is available in many areas. All - the residual effect of the crash of 2008. There are countless jobs being loss due to the discontinuation of the Bush tax cuts and the uncertainty of healthcare; AND what net effect it will have on employers. Contrary to commissioner opinion, there are many talented and well-qualified folks out there that would gladly accept the county positions at what they are currently paying BEFORE the new raises. There are hundreds if not thousands of potential applicants out there! The trend for those that do have jobs is usually a pay freeze, reduction in benefits, or a pay reduction (State of Washington employees!) just to keep their jobs. In fact, there are most likely more qualified applicants than those currently holding positions with the county! Basic economics - surplus, lower wages-better skills / shortage - higher wages-minimal skills required. I am guessing the county figured the city manage was able to bamboozle the taxpayers into unwarranted raises, so why not the county too? Expect more increased taxes increases, fees, and special levies - total mismanagement of public finances, in my opinion.

Did it ever occur to these councilman that monitoring production quality is a level for a paygrade increase? Not just a "We have to keep up with other parts of the country to keep these people on the job". Maybe theres a lot of these people need to find new employment getting complacent in there positions.

Don't forget this pay increase when you vote for the vacancies that are coming up. This city/county are getting too expensive to live in anymore.
