County commissioners want the Rural Library District to put a hold on building a $3.6 million suburban Walla Walla branch until dialogue on forming a larger regional library has been exhausted.

Sheriff must set priorities

As is made clear in the state constitution and statutes, it is not the roll of the county commissioners to establish priorities for elected officials.

Walla Walla County, like local governments throughout Washington state, has more needs than revenue. So it’s hardly a shock the budget discussions between the county commissioners and the various departments are, at times, tense.

Voters should affirm gay marriage law

Approving Referendum 74 would allow gays to continue to obtain state civil marriage licenses. It does not force churces to perform gay marriage.

We have consistently taken strong stands in favor of gay rights and, specifically, efforts to ensure homosexuals are not discriminated against. We have also been advocates for committed same-sex couples to have the same legal protections and benefits of committed heterosexual couples.
