WALLA WALLA - A gang fight early Saturday morning ended with gunshot and stab wounds to five people, with one victim airlifted to a Portland hospital and two gang members arrested.

A "war zone" was how a Walla Walla Police Department news report described the scene when officers arrived at a single-family residence in the 1300 block of Center Street at 2:16 a.m. The house is owned by a husband and wife who both have strong ties to local law enforcement.

Arrested in connection with the fight were Jacihel Contreras, 25, who was taken into custody by officers following his release from a local hospital for stab wounds, and Fernando Saenz, 22.

Contreras was arrested on investigation of two counts of assault in connection with the shootings. Saenz was arrested on investigation of five counts of assault in connection with the stabbings. Police believe that Saenz may have mistakenly stabbed Contreras during the fight.

According to police, a "birthday party with numerous gang members was taking place," but violence erupted when several people with no known gang affiliations stopped at the house.

This is why I toss the annual prevention guide in the waste basket I get from Walla Walla on an annual basis. No one but ME knows how to profile and THAT is not in your guide. And I live 300 miles away!! If my house sits 7 months(which it has in the past) before I get the correct renter.....it sits. THANKS, BUT NO THANKS.

Wow - I have lived in the neighbor"hood" for 50 years too. Its funny, I know more about the trouble this house has had over the past 20 years then the landlords. I guess I have figured out who not to hire as a Prevention Consultant. Oh and yes - When my safty and that of my family is put at risk - that my friend is a Game Changer.

Well Walla Walla, The way i read this is : Walla Walla Police Dept. is now Harboring Gang members in there own homes ! Sorry guys but seems like everyone knew but the Ruleys !! Ok so does she get paid from us tax payers for what you call crime prevention ? I'm gonna keep my trust in the street officers of the city of Walla Walla who risk there lives every shift working in the street to provide our safety, rather than trust someone sitting behind a desk reading from a work book on crime prevention.

Good Grief this Gang stuff is out of control in your town of Walla Walla. I no longer live in the area but choose to keep up on the news good or bad. This is bad, very bad, people. We (especially landlords)need to be aware of what and who is happening in our homes and neighborhoods. It is obvious the senario is not this.We must not assume or act oblivious to the surroundings. Walla Walla has far too much gang related issues going on seems like. This sickens me!!

I doubt the landlord would have ever rented to these 2 fine upstanding citizens. What are they...poster kids for the devil? Would'nt surprise me that they went and paid someone to rent the place...someone with a good credit history...then took over as their place to do business. Need to cut this problem off at the knees asap. Maybe time to start cracking down on the illegals and ship them back.

Your comment is interesting since the OWNER claimed to make monthly visits! Yes, I agree with the illegals. But, if you rent property, it is your responsibility to know your renters and if, as the Ruleys say, they talked with them monthly, I don't have a CLUE how they missed gang activity!

They live and work in Walla Walla. Don't even go there. We are talking about the Crime Prevention Officer and an Executive at WW Dispatch. Their lives are VERY involved in WW. As a landlord, I know exactly what and who my residents are.....don't need to mince words there.

Promise Keepers are not the answer! Fred Moore should be the next Chief of Police. He is an honest hard working man, who understands the work of the street officers and will work to make the streets of Walla Walla safe. He will ensure that that not only that the street officers are safety concerned but that all personnel of the WWPD are also very involved and street smart themselves!!!!!!!

I would like to know if any of these five men were citizens of the United States. If not....then why is the federal government not involved with their deportation? Is it true that Walla Walla is a sanctuary city? When is the last time one has ever heard of an illegal alien and ICE involved in any way whatsoever in Walla Walla County recently?

That is why Fred Moore should be Chief of Police. I personally would like to see these issues dealt with. And I believe that with the street officers we have (and I won't name those I know by name)and someone in charge that is compatent and savvy in the workings of the WWPD should take control of WWPD. I VOTE for FRED MOORE!!!!!!

"brian"...read the news. gangs force immigrants to participate in their illegal doings all over the u.s.

in this case, they could have placed a gang family member in the house. say some nice lady that has worked hard and has good credit.

the gangs don't intend to live in this house, just use it to gather for drug sales....or "birthday parties".

if the landlord only visited during the day, then i doubt she would have ever seen anything out of the usual. this is why i speculated this scenario.

the neighbors are the ones to ask regarding the activity that occured there....during the day and night
