From the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin Online News.
Walla Walla native Ron Johnson, tai chi quan instructor, has found a peaceful lifestyle as well as employment after retirement.
Johnson teaches Yang-style tai chi, a combination of softness and strength, to people of all ages. One of his very popular classes is designed for seniors at the Center at the Park.
According to Johnson, tai chi is compatible with meditation, it can involve energy work to develop centering and energy flow. The moves are slow and deliberate. “It’s a lifestyle,” he said. “Slow down and live life. Be aware of what’s around you. It’s a process you can use to better your life. You use less energy to do more.” It’s important for retirees to keep active and Johnson was no exception. “When I retired, I got tired of sitting around. I used to work for the Corps of Engineers, in survey-related jobs for more than 37 years before I retired.”
