The only reason Turner would not want to have open meetings is because he could not change what he says. All three commissions would be on the same page he starts out on.

THE COMMISSIONERS RUN WALLA WALLA IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE WHETHER YOU ARE HOME GROWN OR NOT. IF THEY DON'T LIKE YOU...YOU ARE OUT PERIOD. TURNER DOESN'T HAVE A CHANCE WITH THEM OR THE GOOD OLD BOY SYSTEM. YOU PEOPLE WOULDN'T KNOW A GOOD THING IF IT HIT YOU SQUARE IN THE FACE. THE COMMISSIONERS BACKED A GARBAGE MAN FOR CORONER, GAVE HIM A BIG FAT RAISE, NEW VEHICLE FULL TIME ASSISTANCE, BUT CUT OTHER AREAS....GO FIGURE. IF YOU DON'T DANCE THE DANCE YOU ARE OUT. WALLA WALLA NEEDS HELP THE GANGS LOVE THE FACT THAT THE PEOPLE HAVE THEIR HEADS BURIED. THE UB DOESN'T REPORT FACT, THEY REPORT TIB BITS, HALF TRUTHS, MISQUOTES ANYTHING TO CAUSE A RIFF BETWEEN GOOD PEOPLE.
YOU ALL NEED TO WAKE UP NOW STOP THE STUPID GRADE SCHOOL GARBAGE OR IS IT ALL POSSIBLE, GET BEHIND THE PERSON THAT WAS VOTED IN TO DO THE JOB. THIS IS JUST PLAIN NUTS.

MS is cleary out of touch. The commissioners want all the meetings to be public as they should yet you blame them for the problems. Lets look at the common denominator here. Turner. As for the coroner, the chief of police, the previous sheriff, the fire chief and hospital staff had problems with him. If the sheriff would just quit this all or nothing attitude then things might get done.

I guess I should have used all capital letters so it would be more like "grade school garbage".

yep it is the good old boys against the new guy John Turner. I say we need new leadership in the county that will work with our Sheriff. The good old boys just don't like being challenged to make any changes. The UB is just rubber stamping to the same old ways of doing a poor job of managing our county. Shame on the UB and shame on the Commission. The people of Walla Walla need to wake up!

You seem to talk out both sides of your mouth when you say back who was elected...

There have never been so many letters written about an elected person, or anyone else for that matter until john turner came here trying to use smoke and mirrors for his own personal gain as he does at each and every job he has had. The one common denominator in all of this mess is john turner. He needs to be ousted. Maybe the time is now to get the process started.

I also happen to believe that the sheriff's office is responsible for developing strategic plans and that the commissioners job is to make sure the county doesn't go broke. The commissioners are correct by insisting that the meetings with Sheriff Turner be recorded (we have to protect our "good old boys" from slander).

Guess everyone is bored with complaining about the lack of a pool or the transparency of the WW Port.... so we're back to this tired topic?

WallaWalla1, Most of us posting aren't willing to be distracted from the problem of unethical behavior on the part of our elected official (Sheriff Turner). The issue is 'old' only for the fanatics (defined as a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal, as in religion or politics) who continue to spew Turner rhetoric. As a citizen and taxpayer, I want the facts not scare tactics or outright fibs. I have never expressed concern about any politician until Mr. Turner arrived on the the 'scene'.

Turner is the one that said at all of his meetings, debates, forums that he was connected to people and programs. He would be able to get K-9s, equipment and training for next to nothing since his good friend runs the Navy Seal K-9 program. He said he knew several people who want to be reserves and would pay for their own stuff.

This is from an article in the U-B prior to being elected: About the K9 program, Turner said he could use a network of friends in the law enforcement community to help the sheriff's office set up a K9 program. He would also work with booster clubs and seek foundation grants to keep the program operating.

Turner said he would "continue to work within the budget" to establish his goals, but also said there are many other sources of funds that can be tapped.

Turner said people in the community have said they would be willing to lend their expertise with writing grants, but refused to say who they are. "They've asked me not to disclose their names," he said.

However, if elected, Turner said he would not be "kicking over tables" to implement changes. "I'm well aware my goals will take time and may take years," he said.

commonsense: You wrote: "the commissioners are not law enforcement professionals so how are they supposed to know how much money is needed to effectively protect the county?"
Well, they are also not auditors, assessors, clerks, judges, etc. so how can they know how much money is needed to run any of these other departments? What makes Turner so much more important than the other elected officials and department heads? He said he would be able to make his vision work within the existing budget.
Yes, we have crime issues but we also have property tax issues, water issues, county road issues, health issues, and many other issues.

Golden Rule......The one with the gold, makes the rules. Commissioners have the gold so they make the rules. New rule ... Meetings will be in public and recorded.

John Turner is doing a good job. He has reached out to the public as well and the county commissioners to find ways to improve his department. This whole issue has become an attact on our elected Sheriff of which I call "BS" and it should stop. All our elected officials should be able to work together. I guess the commissioners don't want to do that in a reasonable way. Get off your high horse and treat John Turner as an eqeal. The people are John Turners "boss" not the commissioners. We elected him and the commssioners need to work with him to make his department improve.

Charlotte your right. The Commissioners are not turners boss. The majority did elect him. He has reached out with his roundtable meetings. (not sure what they accomplish) You are however wrong when you say he is doing a good job. He is not. He has VERY poor moral at the SO. He has spent more time out of the county than in it learning what it is we the taxpayers want, need, and can afford. I don't hear any other department heads begging for money because they know there is only so much to go around. (In case you didn't know the economy is not good right now, and everyone needs to tighten their belts including turner) One last thing that might have to be looked at is if things do keep deteriorating in the SO as they are, the voters might ask for a recall.
