Sheriff's Office investigation is not forgotten
The investigation has gone on for two years and four months. The U-B will publish an update twice a month until the matter is resolved.

Report ViolationPerhaps it's not a high prority for the FBI because it's not that bad of a situation? Small potatoes cases probably don't make the top of any agencies list.
Report ViolationI think John Turner is the man for the job! I know he could solve the 'crime' with 140 plus years of experience!

"Financial improprieties" sounds like theft or MAYBE just poor accounting. However, since this type of "crime" must be
locked in, that is: proven enough to get a conviction before accusing or charging or arresting anyone, it surely
must be a real nose bleed for all involved. If you charge someone without enough proof, you look ridiculous when the Defense Attorney points out all the others who could have taken or "mis-appropriated" the dinero. Like the search for Bigfoot, this is likely to remain unresolved. Remember, there is a Statute Of Limitations and if enough time goes by
Walla Walla could possibly become more famous for the "Great Sheriff's Office" mystery that could not be "proven beyond a reasonable doubt". Since everyone even close to this situation has been sworn to make no comment on the facts, the U-B probably will be unable to put any effective pressure on the SO or the WSP or the FBI for a resolution. I believe several people know for sure what happened, but they cannot prove it. However, the FBI has done remarkable things and may be able to satisfy the U-B
and the public.
I beleive that our editors are simplifying things a bit. To quote the "editorial"
"The length of this investigation is ridiculous. Either the Spokane office of the FBI is either severely overworked, incompetent or its agents are purposely dragging this matter out."
I believe there are other factors. It seems to me that if investigators want a piece of data, they need to subpoena to get it. If they don't know exactly what they're looking for, that can be challenging.
Along with those factors, it could also be that they need to look into how long it's been happening, who else may be involved and why has the accounting continued in the manner it has. It certainly does appear that much of what we do in Walla Walla is as it's been for YEARS without regard to better practices. As an example, look back at the Sheriff election; John Turner is bringing a history of proven tactics and there's STILL an element here that fights him because if ignorance and or lack of vision.
I beleive speculation is pointless. This isn't a CSI episode nor other television crime drama. These things take time and with minimal resources they're probably doing the best they can do.
This town has too many good ol boys covering for each other. If only some of us who know things could talk without fear of retribution I think many residents would be appalled at the corruption. I imagine the FBI has its work cut out for it on this one.
