"The Great Cover Up"
I grew up in Walla Walla, and I love the City and its people. Last year was our 50th Wa-Hi reunion. We return home whenever we can.
A lot has changed, but a lot remains the same.
The change I embrace - the viticulture, Whitman College's and our Junior College, great medical facilities and more.
But what remains the same is our City father's unwillingness to accept creativity, and art - including the Octopus. The great "cover up" reminds me of a time - not so many years ago - when the same City fathers wanted to rid our community of the Carnegie Library.
This long standing dispute could have been solved amicably. Instead, it shows that we still have a long way to go. So declare "victory" City fathers - pyrrhic though it is . But then look yourselves in the mirror and think about the statement you just made about my City to a citizenry that has grown faster than you have, and about our reputation throughout the rest of the State.
