My Granny, Minerva King, cooked at the Oasis for a number of years. Her clam chowder was famous and she was a terrific cook all-around. I spent hour after hour with her when she worked. Sitting with her at the table while she played solitaire between orders, letting me drink Shirley Temples and amuse myself however I could without interrupting her. Ruby Selby was my godmother - "Aunt Ruby", and I remember feeding her little dog Muffet bits of raw hamburger from the kitchen, and eating spiced apple rings as a snack....I remember how exciting it was to be allowed to wash dishes in the big sinks (washing dishes has since lost its charm, but back then it was pure fun!). Many memories for me there. I wish I had known it was going to close; I'd have gone back one more time.
