I believe that the UB has tried to be fair on this story, although continued coverage is a little overboard. The overreaction to this story is insane. The teenager told not to attend the game, when his father showed up he was leaving voluntarily then he suddenly became belligerent. He was restrained by an excellent father (I've done it myself to my sons) and now everyone wants charges??? This is insane. Children need boundaries and discipline, without it we get children with no respect. This teenager wants to go into the military? He'll learn even more discipline there too. His Dad was helping him grow.

This was not assault, if it was Mr martin (he was not acting in official capacity) would have been arrested. This shows the total PC mentality of ever don't touch a teenager. The teenager was belligerent and made a scene, his loving father corrected the issue appropriately. The teenager reacted poorly and was hurt. As for Sheriff Turner, he is an awesome asset to this community. Accept it.

Wow! The UB does it again – “Ex-wife files temporary restraining order against top deputy”. What a misleading and deceitful headline.

The proper headline should be “this is not news” or “loving father shows his teenage son the boundary not to cross”. Chief Deputy Martin apparently was not on duty, he did not beat his son. What we have here is Gerrod Martin (not a Chief Deputy on duty) acting as a great father. He told his son that he shouldn’t be there (we don’t know why and it’s shouldn’t matter). When his son refused to obey his father, Gerrod then restrained his son by his wrist (perfectly legal in every respect). His son rebelled and ended up hurting his wrist. Boo-hoo, so sad, I blame the belligerent son for his injury. I have had two teenage sons (grown up now), they push their limits, they rebel against authority. I’ve had to restrain my sons before and guess what – they thanked when they matured. Children need boundaries and they need to be reinforced. Grabbing a teenage son by the wrist is not abuse. I hope this case gets thrown out.

More gun control, what state do I live in again? Oh yea I live in the state of Seattle now. Good grief, this is insane! Gun control creates crime, look at Chicago and D.C.

Here we go again, instead of admitting this gentleman has an important issue - the blatant bias against Sheriff Turner by the UB staff all the comments slam him! Grow up children. he makes some extremely valid points that no one disputing! The UB does not represent the people of Walla Walla! We are not Seattle, we need a new paper.

Great letter Margaret. Thanks for telling the honest truth. I also work with Search and rescue and Sheriff Turner is a real blessing to the county.

A vote of yes on 594 will have a dramatic impact on your life. Think about this for a minute - if 594 passes (I hope it dies a horrible death!) here is one consequence I haven't seen spelled out -

A burglar/criminal (with an illegal weapon) breaks into your home, your spouse shoots them with your legally owned gun, she then goes to jail!!! The weapon was transferred without a background check, and according to 594 that is illegal! What a stupidly written piece of junk 594 is, and it was written that way specially to eliminate our rights to self protection.

The incident in Maryville was terrible, but this law (594) would have had no impact at all! We already have laws to protect illegal arms transfers, they need to be enforced, not re-written!
