I went and toured the science building last night, I haven't been there since my kids graduated and I attended conferences, before that was in 1973 while attending Wa Hi. Now it's my turn to step up and support education facilities for the future and that's what I plan to do. If you haven't decided yet there is another open house in a few days, go see for yourself and talk with the teachers who use this building, they will be glad to share their experiences with you.
Steve, it sounds to me like they removed the reserve pumper at station 2, Engine 3. That truck is a Seagrave truck, and several years ago, there was a broken part in the front steering or suspension, I don't remember exactly but they had to find someone to make the part because Seagrave no longer made the part. That was just one of several problems when breakdowns arise, and ends up with long out of service times. That is one reason we were so anxious to get rid of it, It is a 1981 and according to NFPA standards should have been retired years ago. The article goes on to talk about the damage sustained on the new ladder truck. There was a lot of hoopla about not using it before hand because of cost, well that's like telling a race car driver, you can't practice in the car because you might break it and it's expensive, you can only use it on race day. Maybe if the firefighters got more practice at driving the rig, the accident might not have happened in the first place. I agree totally with you, maybe the council should leave the operations of each department to the department leaders they are paying to make those decisions.

I could have waited for that BIG bit of news. I do agree the school district needs to be transparent on how they are spending the money.
Lead by example. That is something the city leaders don't know how to do. Mr. Shawa does a good job, and I am sure works hard. But when you tell your employees for the last several years that revenues are down and there just isn't money for raises, then turn around and give all the department heads raises, and a retiring police chief a raise the day before he leaves retroactive, who by the way had been an outstanding leader and employee, and now give the manager a raise just doesn't sit well and doesn't give much credibility to the claim of no money. The employees and citizens don't trust the council members motives.
