I'll believe it when I see it....:)
I think the Zags would much rather draw a #1 seed in the tournament than be ranked #1!
That brings up an interesting question, has a #1 ranked team ever NOT been given a #1 seed?
This should be a good matchup for Whitman. The teams actually have two common opponents. According to their website, Cal Lutheran defeated Whitworth and lost to George Fox in early season games. Go Whitties!
Happily, Whitman's season hasn't ended. Their record of 20-5 earned them a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament. They will play Cal Lutheran this Friday in Portland.
It is incorrect to state that Whitman "finished it's season." According to the Whitman website, although Whitworth did claim the automatic berth to the NCAA DIII tournament, Whitman could still claim an at-large berth.
I attended the game and as bad as I felt for Wa-Hi, you had to hand it to Chiawana for hitting the big shots (almost all of them!) in the fourth quarter. Besides, this was as close to a meaningless game as you could have, as Wa-Hi will likely meet the Riverhawks again next Saturday. They just have to get past the Richland/Pasco winner on Friday first. Go Devils!
Anyone know why sentences are always expressed in months, rather than years? Any legal eagles out there?
Really have enjoyed watching the Wa-Hi kids this year, girls and boys. However, I wish to comment on the rudeness of many people who only show up for the boys game. They wander in during the last quarter of the girls game, find their seats and busy themselves catching up with their friends until the "real" game starts. They might want to note the girls are 17-2 while the boys have lost eight of the last 10. Both teams deserve the same support regardless of their record. Maybe they should switch it around occasionally and hold the boys game first. Then those people could leave and the real fans could cheer on the girls!
You've heard of the Sports Illustrated cover jinx, maybe there is a Jim Buchan column jinx as well. No sooner does he write up the Whit women's 11-1 record, they go and lose two in a row! Go Missionaries!
According to FoxNews.com, AIG has pulled out of the lawsuit. Good thinking!
