jennybuggs 5 months, 3 weeks ago on In aftermath of liquor privatization, spirits everywhere, not cheap

Why is everyone so upset about the price of liquor? It is a luxury item that has terrible effects on people's health. So what if it's expensive? Tobacco is expensive and no one is wailing in the streets about that.

"no public appetite to process detail". How about no opportunity to process the details. I asked at Parks and Rec for a copy of the proposal and they couldn't give me one since they didn't have a single paper copy available and then they didn't give me one. It is information that legally must be available and when I asked for it at their office window no one could find a copy and no one even had access to the electronic version. I was told that the information is kept only on the Director's computer. They called him out and instead of giving me the information I asked for he gave me a speech about how he had been 'managing pools for 30 years' and to just 'trust [him]'. Maybe its BS like that they make citizens wary of these kinds of proposals

Thank God that this is finally happening. The fact that rape kits aren't tested b.c. they are not required to be is appalling. But this article needs some gender neutral editing. Not all rape victims are female and evidence from male victims of rape is also collected in a 'rape kit'.

Have the WWPD ever prosecuted a motorist for a pedestrian or cyclist death? I feel like it could be midnight and they would still claim it was the angle of the sun.

Force feed local fish to those business people and lobbyists the are claiming economic disaster if our state is truthful about the risks to those who consume fish as their primary protein and watch how quickly they change their tune.

So he has been abusing them for at least 2.5 years and the cops knew for 2.5 years. Why the sluggish pace of getting them removed from the home?

Yay for economic growth but it would be nice if downtown could keep it more balanced. You don't go to a mall and find that it is 75% shoe stores. Downtown shouldn't be 75% wine tasting rooms (esp wines that aren't even from the WWV). I wish the Downtown Foundation/Chamber of Commerce/Port/Whoever would do some major courting of businesses that would keep the downtown more balanced and a place that locals can go in addition to tourists. Thank God for sears and tallmans and the fabric stores, pet food store and doctors offices that still remain that give life to main street in the off season.

Awesome. I had no idea that people still banned books. Especially for the grievous offense of using 'words "we do not speak in our home.”' Gosh, perhaps they should just home school their kid to guarantee they only experience one view of the world. Way to be Meridian!

jennybuggs 9 months, 1 week ago on Parents of Sunnyside man who died while longboarding lobby for helmet law

He was 21. An adult. Are you going to make everyone wear a helmet in every situation? I was in a riding accident where wearing a helmet saved my life. I also fell once climbing b/c my helmet was in the way - it put me about 1/2 too far away from a hold on a rock. I never wear a helmet when riding my bike. It is personal choice and I don't think it should be a law since you not wearing a helmet is not putting other's lives at risk. The elderly fall often and injure themselves; you gonna make them wear a helmet every day of their lives?
