As Board Members are Elected positions could anyone tell me why this is being treated as a District Personnel Matter? Do the Board Members now report to the Superintendent? Just Wondering....

Hey Jim...Very Few people own actual Assault Weapons but in your comparing a single shot to a semi-automatic here's a comparison that you can no doubt relate to....A person can get from Point A to B in a Piper Cub or Cessna so why are they flying a Lear?

The City cannot provide sufficient services in the existing City boundaries. What will they do with more? The additional taxes generated will not cover the needs. They seem to be proud that they have annexation signatures from 60% of homeowners and make a point of saying they do not need any further agreement to proceed with their plan. What they don't say is that the way they secured the signatures was in many cases rather slight of hand. The developers of the Table Rock, Triple Creek Additions, etc., were required to utilize City services and in turn, purchasers of homes in these additions had to sign forms agreeing to future annexation as a condition of their purchase. Many had no idea what they were signing at the time. Just a bunch of documents requiring signatures. Sign and move on or don't buy. These signatures were not secured through a door to door campaign. Possibly those in these additions may be better off in the long run...but...how about the hundred plus who will be adversely affected and want nothing to do with this annexation. The Power of Government to force people to do things they would rather not and should rightfully not have to do is truly unfortunate.

I fully agree with the position and views expressed by the U-B Editorial Board. This was just another knee jerk action/reaction that will accomplish nothing other than to make it more difficult for those desiring to access public information. There is no apparent evidence that the most recent violence against public officials had anything to do with the availability of public records such as their home addresses and in fact the most recent shooting of a Sheriff in West Virginia occurred while he was sitting in his marked vehicle eating lunch. Unfortunately, those who choose to do harm to others whether they be law enforcement/public officials or the general public will find a way and hindering access to public records will not stop them. It is pretty similar to the efforts to pass more gun laws to stop gun violence. It won't make a difference! I strongly encourage Mr. Heimbigner, Mr. Nagle and the County Commissioners to reconsider this action.

I had an Email message from Rep. Walsh this P.M. She advised that she was initially misinterpreting the purpose and after further evaluation of the impact of HB 1588 on law abiding gun owners and the fact it would do little, if anything, to curtail gun activity by criminals, she has reversed her position on this bill and Will Not be supporting it. That is fortunate and hopefully others who don't really seem to understand the ramifications of passage and implementation of some of these proposed gun control laws will also come to the realization they will do nothing but have negative effects on everyone except the criminals and those who choose to find a way to do harm to others. Not to mention creating an enforcement nightmare for Law Enforcement. Unrealistic Bills like HB 1588 and SB 5737 Should Not Be Passed!

I too contacted Reps Walsh and Nealey as well as Sen Hewitt re HB 1588. Was not too concerned about Rep Nealey's position but have heard nothing from Rep Walsh which doesn't surprise me since she is one of the sponsors of the Bill. I did hear from Sen. Hewitt who is opposed to additional gun laws but favors possible improvements in the root causes of violence caused by circumstances behind the gun...which makes a lot more sense. I viewed the videos of the public hearing held last week and found it unfortunate that presenters were given only 2 minutes to state their case. With all the activity of committee members taking place during the hearing, it appeared to me they have all pretty well made up their minds and the hearing was just a politically correct feel good type process. If you really want to get your dander up about legislative gun control proposals, take a look at SB 5737. It is downright scary/concerning and the Original Bill has actually been corrected to remove a provision in it that would have permitted the Sheriff to conduct an inspection of ones home to ensure you were in compliance with aspects of their proposed so-called Assault Weapons laws. That would have applied to virtually anyone owning any type of semi-auto firearm and as I understand it, anything with a removable magazine. One of the sponsors said he had not read the bill and another one said having that language in the bill was a....Mistake! It is just proof that us law abiding gun owners have every right to be concerned about registration/confiscation as there are those who will not be satisfied until....only the Criminals/Bad Guys have guns.

Thank Goodness for the Super Majority. It should still be the law for voting on levies too. Just the voting support of a large District Staff and extended families has a major impact on the outcome of school elections and at least the Super Majority system affords the rest of the property tax paying voters a little bit of leverage. Does it concern you Mr. Dohe that over 52% of registered voters didn't care enough about this bond to bother to vote? I have no way of knowing what difference a better voter response would have made but it is kind of a shame so many don't care one way or the other. It may send a message however.

I certainly do respect the position and decision of the Board. What is mystifying to me about the clarification of the Board President is her statement that Superintendent Miller has promised to support it. Is it optional for him? I realize he is in a Very Powerful position, but am somewhat bewildered to think he may have the power to override any of the Board's Decisions? As far as any so-called excess funds are concerned...just keep adding on Bells and Whistles until there aren't any. That's the Government Way!

Use Wisdom suggested Mr. Carrera is being the best possible steward of Tax Dollars with the position he holds on use of Excess Funds. I could be more convinced of this... IF he would pay the Last Half 2012 Taxes on his home...or is he just the steward of others tax dollars?? Oh Yes...Shame On Me!!..As am sure this is just another one of those innocent Politician Oversights!!!
