oneStarman 12 months ago on It takes a town to raise a tree

When you FLY into Walla Walla the City looks like a Tiny Forest in the Middle of all the rolling hills of wheat and other crops. You don't really see the Tiny little Trees that we plant today along Streets and in our yards. You see the 100 Year old Trees that some Native Americans refer to as 'Our Grandfathers Standing'.
That is Why it Saddens me that more isn't done to protect these old trees that are being damaged by the winds of a changing climate. Many simply require more care like our Aging Parents. Most have been Neglected like our City Streets by a City Government more concerned about the Color of Murals on Main Street than what makes Walla Walla a place we WANT to live in. We should be able to spend a little to keep our Trees alive rather than be so quick to cut them down.

oneStarman 1 year ago on Should Congress approve legislation that would extend background checks to online and gun show sales?

UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS prevent unrestricted 'Private Transactions' of Truckloads of Perfectly Legal Assault Rifles and even 50 Caliber Sniper Rifles that are advertised as being able to "TAKE DOWN A JETLINER"
These weapons arm DRUG CARTEL and Criminal Gangs and TERRORISTS and provide MILLIONS to Gun Manufacturers who then Support the NRA. The 'Deal' being Negotiated STILL will allow some of these secret ARMS DEALS but will help make them more difficult.
If you are NOT a Criminal or Insane then you can easily pass a Background Check. The Big Bad Government (which By The Way is YOU) has no interest in confiscating your Guns but WOULD like to know where they GO if they are STOLEN and used for CRIMES. This isn't a COMPREHENSIVE set of Laws that will curb the epidemic of Gun Murder in this country; but it is a sensible START.

The Truly Frightening thing about the Bill you are Discussing is that it was WRITTEN to make the Public's Privacy MORE Protected - But the JACKBOOT of Militarized Modern Law Enforcement DEMANDED that it actually REDUCE Our Freedom.

Do not Be NAIVE - A Toilet Seat costs $700 so the cost of BLACK PROJECTS can be hidden 'Off Book'
The way we CUT the Bloated Military is to Bring home the 50,000 Troops in Europe left over from WWII and the OTHER 50,000 in Korea and Japan. THEN we get rid of about 75% of the NAVY which is mostly a collection of Billion dollar TARGETS which are WAY Too Expensive for 'Saber Rattling' We use 20th Century assets to plan for wars based on 19th Century Tactics and Strategies when in THIS Millennium we can Watch for trouble from SPACE and send a DRONE to Take Out a Bad Guy without INVADING our 'Ally'.

GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY - Because of marijuana Legalization we Don't NEED as Much Law Enforcement. In 1980 there were about 1 Million people being held in US Prisons. NOW there are over 2.5 Million. MOST of these people are Non-violent Drug Users.

ONCE UPON A TIME there was something called Privacy. Once upon a Time there was something called Freedom. Once upon a Time there was something called 'The rule of Law' - but all that was Before the USA Patriot Act and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) There used to be STRICT PROHIBITIONS against Surveillance of US Citizens by our Intelligence Agencies. It was OK for the NSA to use its Global Network of Electronic Communications Monitoring systems to read emails and listen to phone calls of people in OTHER countries and SIFT through the DATA with its MASSIVE Computers - but NOT here. There USED to be provisions to Prevent the MILITARY from being used by Law Enforcement against US Citizens. Not anymore. Now anyone is just a Keystroke away from a Black Bag over the Head and a Prison Cell on a Military Base where NO One will every hear from you again. Its NOT the Famous people like Patraeus that have the most to Fear - It is You and Me and the People like us that simply Disappear.

oneStarman 1 year, 5 months ago on Always give thanks to God, no matter what

God is our Loving Father (and mother) who ALWAYS wants good for us. God has no desire to 'Test' us with loss and grief. YES - God working in us can find a Way for life even as we pass through the Valley of the Shadow of Death - But it is NEVER his desire that we Live there. God NEVER wants us to accept Evil as inevitable - we must ALWAYS strive for the Way of Life and Love. Many misguided Christians use the Truth that God works for good in all things to EXCUSE our Acceptance of Greed and Hate in ourselves and those we follow - This is NOT the Way of Life and it is NOT the will of God.
