The second ammendment is the law of the land. Many liberals and conservative alike support it as decided in Heller. Justice Scalia, hardly a liberal, spelled out in no uncertain terms, the limitations of the second ammendment. He was very clear that the "tyranny" theory has no legal basis, on the contrary, to try to overturn an elected government under the presumption of tyranny ( without voting) could very fast escalate to treason. To my knowledge there is no conservative movement organizing a logistic to prepare its citizens to fight tyranny by violent means. Wait, I believe there was a group of nuts in northern Idaho...no, sorry, there are hundreds of organizations all over the country with such radical ideas. I don't believe for a minute that serious conservatives support these groups.
As a Physician concerned about the health of my veterans, political believes has never been an issue. My support to all of them is 100%, regardless! Based on political persuations it is safe to assume that half of the active military and veterans are liberals. They believe that, although still supporting the second ammendment, the tyranny theory which suposedly gives them the right to start shooting tyrannic government officials is naive at best. Don't shoot, vote!
The USA will never be defeated because the USA Government has the mighties military force in the history of world. Yes, It's actually paid for by the People's tax money. It is so mighty that even when all the aggrieved, armed extremist, second ammendment lovers in the country declare "tyrany", they would not have a chance agains the US Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force. Who will be the one declaring tyrany? The NRA president or the GOP president? Maybe Rush or Glenn, or maybe Ted Nugent? Do they have a plan or a strategy to fight the "tyranic" US Goverment? Well, I do believe that the FBI has indeed a plan to crush such a movement way before the military takes over. Not too long ago Mr. Nugent, a second ammendment against tyrany theorist, had to spend quite a few thousand dollars in legal fees after the FBI was all over him for making violent threats agains US government officials. He is lucky he is not in Federal prison! He is still under survailance, though.
A more civil alternative to prevent tyrany is what Democracy offers to all Americans, which is the voting process. Stay civil, my friend... and avoid trouble!
Letting others know ahead of time before pronouncing a "tongue in cheek" statement is incongruous with its main intention. In other words it is an oxymoronic proposition. I certainly disagree with me being condescending to anyone, but if others cease the moment to gain galantry and promptly calling it the day, this is OK with me.
We in this country have the best doctors, hospitals and medical technology in the world. Sadly we do not have the best medical care in the world as we should. We do have the most expensive medial care in the world, indeed. It is ironic that right inside this country, the US military and the VA hospital and clinic system has the best templates for socialized medicine there is and both institutions are are incredibily cost efffective. For the most part they have managed to keep private insurances and expensive pharmaceuticals out of the way. These 2 institutions ( the military and the VA) are the only ones in the world with fully computerized medical records. We know how to do it best, but we must do it the US military and the VA system way. With these templates the Affordable Care Act could be improved, and be transitioned into a more solvent, free from private, expensive medical insurances. Corrupt politicians need to go as well.
Barracuda, insinuations of physical violence are not allowed in a civil, public debate. You will have to give a good answer to the Police when they knock at your door. In sequitur, my friendly lawyer will be glad write you a lovely letter! This is the real world, my friend!
Loplover, just the other day (in history 100 years is nothing), blacks could not vote, women were not allowed to vote. Right up until 1955 Puertoricans were segregated in the US military. Until recently women were not allowed to obtain membership at the Elks club! In many ways gays are still marginalized from the American mainstream society. But we have achieved many victories with incredible sacrifices, sweat and blood, and we ain't goin' back! Oh, no...And this time, more than ever the poetry of the soul will say it better: "Like the tree that's planted by the water, we will not be moved".
In your honor we could call it after you: " Mr. Bizarre Way", after all it is your preferred word, the one you toss around like idiomatic IEDs, to cover up for your lack of originality. One way only, please!
For those unique individuals who just cannot fathom what "tongue in cheek " entails, I say they should stay as shallow and concrete as a piece of cement. These deficits are certainly of no fault of their own, not a laughing matter either, but decidedly something to be lamented. Lack of imagination, and for the capacity to abstract is indeed in the new DSM V, but with a new name! Should I say more about "tongue in cheek" whimsical, figurative expressions for the benefit of these guys? Nah, man!
Pearl, darling! You know so much about the environment, you want to jump straight into ...T bills and muni bonds? You reminded me about my 5 year old daughter. At age 5 she was very disapointed when, on March 21, she woke up expecting to see all the spring flowers in our garden, birds chirping away and bambies trotting around. Of course it takes time to divest from anything. It is called transition! We have the infrastucture we have, to carry us until a transition takes us to more healthy renewable energy resourses. It takes time to adjust to a more sensible paradigm shift.
Here is a question for a clever lady. Can you stand a raw egg on its end on the equinox? What the heck, here is the answer. On a recent test, for 3 consecutive days, 17 out of 20 eggs stood standing, not 100% but close. Now, that's evidence base research! This is due to the tilt of the earth relative to the sun which is zero in equnox (spring). But if we continue to trust oil companies and polluters all over the world, we will invariably have a hell of an omolette when trying this test in the future!
