pdywgn 2 months, 3 weeks ago on Column: Ferguson reveals a growing gap in a black and white world

Every time a Police Officer goes on duty it is similar to a random number generater. No two will have a career with exactly the same calls and most will survive their career with out having to use lethal force or being killed in the line of duty. It's kind of like playing a slot machine with each shift you walk into a crazy casino and sit down at the machine. Picture each call as a spin of the wheels and every spin involves at leat one gun. (The Officers). Every call is different and once in a while there is a horrendous jackpot. It is impossible to break that down to statistics by race and come to the conclusion that an individual officer with no past complaints, etc. was acting out of some sort of rascial bias because one day he had to use force that was likely to kill or seriously injure in order to save his own life or others. These statistics are useless since they continually try to cover the entire countries population into a neat little package to draw a completely bogus conclusion. They would have to do the study with much smaller demographics. If the study was done in Newport News Virginia with a population base of 85%ish black what would the Black on White or White on Black look like? Would the statistics from there be identical to Eastern Oregon and Washington?

Chicole-If you read what you just wrote, you are a supporter of HAMAS a terrorist organization recognized by the USA, or just anti-Semitic. So, which one, you didn't leave any wiggle room there! I advised Annie and now I will advise you to buy a Globe! Israel owns about almost nothing of the Holy Land and took multiple rocket launches from the Gaza before retaliating in the M/E. As far as I am concerned let them do what they do. They are very good at it.

Chicole-Lets assume for a minute you're choking me because you're stronger and bigger. If I scratch you or bite your hand, you should not blow my head off. Likewise Israel should not bomb Gaza to oblivion.

On my land or my home? IN A HEART BEAT!!!!!! Israel rates that too!!!

Iraq is not a strategic military location for Europe and Africa. If anything it would be a lengthy detour. Iraq is landlocked with exception of a small seaport at the northern end of the Persion Gulf. Grammaphyllis and wallyworldguy, you all handled the political stupidity of the letter, I figured I'd cover the non-political physical ignorance. Annie get a Globe!

On Wednesday, City Council members will review and vote on the 2013-2015 contract. Immediately after that I will not vote for anyone on the City Council as an incumbent! They know why!

Not so good for the Police though! A Hostage Negotiator makes less then a Clerk? Anyone that runs to gunfire is paid less then someone that runs to a typewriter! That is on every level of Government. I appreciate WWPD taking care of our town and recall them taking a pay cut, but payback is due and it is time to pay back to Walla Walla PD for the sacrifices their families endured.

dloudermilk-Almost 100% agreement other then Walla2 needs to go in and fix their own damn pool. I'm very familiar with the Prescott Pool and it was built on the side of a hill. Memorial was built on flat ground and banked in. Prescott actually has one weak bank and a partial area with no bank and has outlasted Memorial by at least 10 years. I'm not trying to be an aggressor here, I just want to know what it will take to repair Memorial

The Prescott Pool is quite a bit older then Memorial Pool. Credit to the Lifeguards that helped maintain it all these years.

Where are you getting your information? I usually go out there a day or two before my appointment and complete my labs. UA and blood work and discuss the findings with the Dr. on the the day of my appointment. I am assuming you are talking about lab work that has to be sent out to a pathologist. That takes longer and is contracted.

The reason they need the training is in the event something happens in the State, not just Walla Walla. If you remember the WTO riots many officers from agencies all over the State augmented Seattle PD, King County Jail and working within the Emergency Operations Center. Pretty slim chance of a riot breaking out in Walla Walla or a major terrorist event, but at the State level odds increase and Walla Walla Officers need to prepare for that just like every other Professional Law Enforcement Agency.
