Always enjoy your thoughtful and interesting comments, GeneandCassie. Yes, when NOAA or anyone speaks of a "hottest month" or "hottest year" they are referring to 'hundredths' of a degree. And that is even dubious due to many factors such as a drastic reduction of temperature monitoring stations in cold areas after the fall of the Soviet Union (for example), the massive amount of temperature measurement stations in "heat island" areas near cities' concrete and asphalt, airports, etc. And other factors. Yes, it's an interesting situation all around, isn't it?
Yes, the climate is changing and always has/will. We're still in an interglacial period ... thankfully ... and have been coming out of the LIA (Little Ice Age) that followed the Medieval and Roman warming periods .... let's hope that we won't have another ice age soon. But you can bet one is in our future. Sun/Milankovitch Cycles and resultant Glaciation are the culprits. Not CO2.
Actually, prematurely cutting the use of fossil fuels around the world will not create a better world. It will turn the advance of civilizations and our high standards of living around. Coal and Oil use fuels something like 85% of the world's energy needs. With hundreds of years left of those fuels we should continue their use and clean up byproducts (but NOT CO2, which isn't harmful).
With the advance of high technology, a better reliable source of energy will be developed over those many years ..... and it won't be solar or wind.
Yes, and for a variety of reasons, exact sea level rise or fall (usually measured in millimeters) is extremely difficult -- if not impossible -- to determine. These reasons include tidal variations due to slight eccentricities of the lunar orbit, expansion and contraction of the oceans due to temperature variations, the rise and fall of both undersea and land masses due to plate tectonics and other natural aspects. And yes, a warming planet helps human survival much more than a cooling one in several ways -- including ability to grow food.
Bravo, GrammaPhyllis. What you wrote is absolutely the truth. DDT had malaria on the run before (thanks to "Silent Spring") was denied. That action is responsible for millions of deaths in SE Asia and Africa. BTW, mosquitos weren't confined only to tropical regions. Yes indeed -- AGW is a massive hoax. You nailed it.
There are executive orders and there are executive orders. Many in the past (if not most) had tacit approvals of congress or at least no objection, as they didn't cross into what many of us perceive to be unconstitutional actions. Obama has on occasion announced his intention to do what he thinks is proper whether or not congress agrees. This is one huge example and its time SCOTUS intervenes.
Since the mean temperature of this planet has not only flattened over the last 17-19 years but dropped, the false hypothesis of AGW will soon evaporate on its own. I suggest reading a couple of fairly short books on the issues, Dark Winter (How the Sun is Causing a 30-year Cold Spell) by John L. Casey and The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels, by Alex Epstein. Just for starters.
"Spoiled and addicted to a fossil-fueled decadent lifestyle"? Fossil fuels have given most of humanity high tech civilizations, much longer life expectancies and wonderful standards of living ever since the Industrial Age got off the ground in the 18-19th centuries. Do you wish to go back to pre-Industrial Age misery? I don't. Fossil Fuel use has been cleaned up immensely over the last decades -- and the only issue before us today is the completely false hypothesis that CO2 emissions from using fossil fuels is adversely affecting the climate, sea-level rise and the like. None of which is true.
Amen. This is the result of Pelosiism -- voting on a bill without knowing what's in it.
Exactly! (Speaking as an Independent voting for Rep. McMorris-Rodgers.)
